Welcome to Loganberry Class!
Hi, I am your class teacher in Loganberry Class. My name is Mrs Stevenson and my teaching assistant is Mr Langford.
What are we learning?
In Literacy, we follow a text- led curriculum and will be looking at the texts ‘Ella, Queen of Jazz and ‘The Big Bad Book’Owl’ as well as various other fairy tales and some poetry. We will continue to be learning lots of reading and writing skills including Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar.
In Maths, we will continue to develop children’s understanding of place value before developing our addition, subtraction, multiplication and division skills. We will also be learning about time, shape and fractions.
Our IPC topic this half term is ‘People of the Past’. We will be learning about a range of famous people including Christopher Columbus, Mary Seacole and Martin Luther King.
Every child has the opportunity to read in school and should now have an accelerated book which they can change once they have completed a quiz in school. Whilst fluency remains important there is a greater focus towards comprehending the texts in Year 2 therefore this may impact the stage they are reading. We do expect children to read at home and continue to earn their REDTED prizes. Please try and listen to your child regularly and don’t forget to record it in their diaries so they can get their prizes.
We have P.E. on a Tuesday and Friday so please remember your P.E. kits! This term the children will be taught dance and gymnastics. Whilst these lessons are mostly taught inside there may be times where we go outside to do P.E, so joggers and a fleece would be beneficial. Plimsolls or trainers can be worn for outside P.E.
As the weather is getting colder please make sure your child has a named coat and jumper with them every day.
Please ensure your child has a named water bottle. Learning is thirsty work!
Homework is sent out on Friday afternoons and needs to be back in by Thursday of the following week. I run a homework session at lunchtime on a Friday if your child needs support. Just let me know.
Please put your child’s name on all of their belongings so that they can be reunited with them more easily.
