In Tornado class we have regular D.E.A.R (Drop Everything And Read) time. This is time to sit back and enjoy reading for pleasure. The children and staff all enjoy our D.E.A.R time. We do therefore ask that your child has a reading book in school each day to enable us to have a successful reading session.

Lexia is continuing to help with the pupils Literacy skills through reading, spelling and answering comprehension questions. The children are finding it enjoyable and are making some good progress after the initial assessments were made and allows us to find their gaps and help fill them so they can have a better chance meeting the targets that have been set for each child to achieve by the end of the year academically.

Our Maths teachers are Mrs Flack, Miss Oakley and Mrs Davenport.

We have seen a big improvement in the children’s maths abilities this term. They have not only developed their calculation methods but are using these intuitively to solve a variety and increasingly difficult range of problems, such as: converting between fractions, percentages and decimals, converting and working out time problems, working out area and perimeter and investigating angles and coordinates.

To help with your times tables click here to see the Laugh Along and Learn times tables songs.

This term we have been studying the topics Making New Materials, Bronze to Bioplastic & Being Human. We have been linking our Literacy writing to our investigations in our topic work.

Following from a very successful day with the Steps to Success team, the two winning teams of the entrepreneurial project will be attending Iceni Academy for the final on Thursday 23rd March 2017. .

Our class is very lucky to be learning brass instruments this year. Your child will be learning either the alto trombone or the tenor horn. Letters have come home to be signed in order for the instrument to be brought home for practise. Alongside this is a Charanga letter which will give access to a wealth of music and lessons for the instrument.

An exciting new page has been added to our school website. Mr Lee has introduced Class Blogs allowing children to write their stories or views about school and for others to have the chance to read, answer and edit under the watchful eye of the teacher. All teachers have the login information for their class so I look forward to some blogging on our page very soon.

Each week you will have a list of spellings to practise. You will then be tested on these each Friday so make sure you are ready!

You all need to keep reading at home each week. This will help you with both spelling and your writing in school.

It is really important that you practise your times tables at home each week. Sometimes you will also have another homework sheet to practise the skills and methods you learnt the week before.

The school has also set up an account on RMeasimaths for you to challenge and develop your maths skills.
