Welcome to

Your teacher is Miss Cresswell

The Early Years Support Staff team are Mrs Ward, Mrs Eagles and Miss Wing

After half term we will be following the theme of growing and being healthy through stories such as Baby Brains, Oliver’s Vegetables, Supertato and The Hungry Caterpillar.

Towards the end of the spring term, we will find out about the Easter story and other Easter traditions. We look forward to inviting parents to an Easter Stay and Play at the beginning of April.

Show and Tell

We will also be starting ‘Show and Tell’ every week. This is an exciting opportunity for your child to develop their speaking and listening skills and it also boosts their confidence by allowing them time to talk in front of their friends.

These skills are also very important when developing early writing. We have decided to give each week a theme to help children think carefully about what they want to share in class. Please check Tapestry for more details.

The children will continue to learn Phase 3 phonics and will be introduced to digraphs (two letters that make one sound) and trigraphs (three letters that make one sound).

The children are becoming more confident with ‘sticking sounds together’ to make words. We practise blending and segmenting every day in our phonics sessions. We add sound buttons underneath each sound to help read the words with digraph/trigraph sounds represented by a line.

We also practise reading and writing short sentences and captions and continue to learn new ‘tricky’ words. The children know that these are the words we can’t sound out and we have to “train our brain” to remember them!

Check out these great websites to find exciting phonics videos and games to play at home.

In Maths, we have been practising simple addition and subtraction. We use the part part whole method to add groups of objects together to find the total.

Children will be encouraged to use comparative language for estimating and comparing size, length, height and weight of objects.

We are  learning the names and properties of  2D and 3D shapes.

Learning at home

You are welcome to share your child’s learning from home on Tapestry. You can post photos and comments of the fantastic ‘WOW’ learning moments that happen at home. The children will get a chance to share their photos with their friends in class.

Name everything!

Please could we ask that you name all items of clothing, including ties. Naming your child’s clothes and belongings is also a great way for children to become more independent, recognising their name and looking after their own things.

Jewellery: We strongly recommend that children do not wear any jewellery to school. If your child has newly pierced ears please provide plasters or Micropore tape to cover their ears during PE sessions.

PE: Our PE day is Thursday. Please make sure your PE Kit is in school. Also please remember to tie back long hair and remove earrings. Thank you.
