Welcome to

 Your teacher is Miss Cresswell

The Early Years Support Staff team are
Mrs Ward, Mrs Eagles, Miss Lambert and Miss Wing

After Christmas we will be reading and learning about traditional stories and fairy tales including Goldilocks, The Gingerbread Man, Jack and the Beanstalk, The Three Little Pigs and the Three Billy Goats Gruff. (Click on the links to listen to the stories online.)

You can help your child at home by reading traditional stories with them and encouraging them to talk about what they have read.

The children will continue to learn Phase 3 phonics and will be introduced to digraphs (two letters that make one sound) and trigraphs (three letters that make one sound).

The children are becoming more confident with ‘sticking sounds together’ to make words. We practise blending and segmenting every day in our phonics sessions. We add sound buttons underneath each sound to help read the words with digraph/trigraph sounds represented by a line.

We  also practise reading and writing short sentences and captions and continue to learn new ‘tricky’ words. The children know that these are the words we can’t sound out and we have to “train our brain” to remember them!

Check out these great websites to find exciting phonics videos and games to play at home.

In Maths, we have been practising simple addition and subtraction. We use the part part whole method to add groups of objects together to find the total.

Children will be encouraged to use comparative language for estimating and comparing size, length, height and weight of objects.

We are learning the names and properties of  2D and 3D shapes.

Learning at home

Thank you for sharing your child’s learning from home on Tapestry. Please continue to send photos and comments of the fantastic ‘WOW’ learning moments that happen at home. The children love sharing their photos with their friends in class.

Reading at home: please record in the yellow reading records when your child has read at home. Each time they read at home, the children receive a star stamp in their book. Children love getting their certificate for super reading at home, in assembly.

PE: Our PE day is Thursday. Please make sure your PE Kit is in school. Also please remember to tie back long hair and remove earrings. Thank you.
